You might think that wayward cats is somewhat of an oxymoron, and in many ways you are right.  Cats are willful and capricious, at least they seem so.  But I was thinking of it in a looser meaning.  As in "unwanted".  It seemed to me when I heard the term wayward in my youth, that was what it meant.  In hushed whispers "he's going to the home for wayward boys".  Unwanted, beyond redemption.

In July after graduating from University and moving back home to the Bay Area I adopted three cats from a shelter where I had been doing volunteer work.   My three are not unwanted, I do care very much for them.  But they were passed over time and again at the shelter because they were special needs cats (FIV+).  So I was determined to give them a home when I could.

Only two of the original three remain now, I lost one (Aramis / Tigre) in January  to a rare condition (ARDS).  The two pictured on this post remain.  The large boy on the left is Porthos and the small one with the wonky ear is Camus (also Athos).  d'Artagnan joined us this month.   He is not FIV +, and hopefully he will remain so.  He was FELV+ but has since tested negative (which is not unheard of, but is rare).

I'm not on a mission to save all hard-luck cats, but I do feel better about doing my part, small as it is.

Some hopeful employment news today, a couple of leads anyway.   One is thanks to a friend, another to a temp agency.
