We have an appointment for tomorrow at 10:30 am for an x-ray series to try and determine what's going on.  He may need to be there all day, and he will almost certainly need to be sedated in order to make the x-ray possible.

Last night he was still in the bathroom cabinet when I got home.

He was probably in there all day.  He did come out about 2 feet into the hallway and I thought he might come to the kitchen to eat, but he went back almost immediately.  So I brought him food and let him eat in there.  He was ravenous.

Later I thought maybe I could coax him into the carrier and hang out with him on the couch.  I managed to move him into the carrier, though he didn't go on his own power.  But he was quite content to lay in it on the couch while I sat and petted him.  After about 20 minutes he got out, made his way to the end of the couch and went rather gingerly down his stairs.

He stayed out with us the rest of the evening.  I put the other two in another room for a while, but he mainly just lay down near his water dish and dozed or watched us.  It was more or less at this point that I realized that the hiding was probably more about avoiding his stairs than anything else. And letting me know something was wrong.   It must hurt him to go up even the few inches onto his stairs, and I hope we can soon find out why.

After another night in the bathroom cabinet, he joined the others for breakfast and stayed out in the living room (on the floor).  He meowed at me for some extra pets, which he got.  But he went back into the cabinet while I was in the shower.  I'm sure he'll be there most of the day.

The more I observe him, the more I feel that my instincts are good, and that I can get this resolved.  When I spoke to new vet #2 this morning she agreed to the course of action, and promised to brief new vet #3 (who I've met, though Camus hasn't) so that she is up to speed when I arrive tomorrow.  I will do my best to make sure that he gets the care that he needs.

It's good that vet #2 is finally listening. The poor baby! I hope things get better soon.
