Interests meme (last time, I promise)
Oct. 3rd, 2007 04:03 pm- Tabbies - I always thought I liked black and white cats best, but then I started to meet some tabbies. I have found them to be exceptionally sweet and courteous. I currently live with 2 brown tabbies, Camus who is a tuxedo tabby (meaning he has white neckfront and paws) and Wonderbutt who has no white at all.
- Jewelry making - I've been getting into to jewelry making a little as some of my friends become more advanced. My hands limit me somewhat in that dexterity is a problem, but I enjoy the creative process of coming up with designs and trying to implement them. I have experimented so far with PMC, wire work and beading.
- Rome -Rome is the only city in the world, and I've been to many, where I have gotten lost with a map in my hand. It is somehow charming to me that you can see the place you are aiming for, but can't figure out how to get there. I love the remnants in Rome from the height of the Roman Empire (roughly 10 BCE - 150 CE) and from the Renaissance.
- Crete - i found Crete to be rugged, individualistic and lightly touristed. I enjoyed the 4 weeks I spent on the island 2 years ago. It has an amazing history from Minoan times to WWII. While there I walked from the top of a mountain to the seaside, ate "weeds in season" and watched clouds explode as they came into contact with the heat traveling North from Africa.
- Gluten sensitivity issues - I am sensitive to wheat and wheat gluten, and so I find the issues surrounding this interesting. I think I am lucky actually to have found out recently because there is an increasing awareness of allergy issues and better labeling is available all the time. Wheat is hidden in many common ingredients, and so with sensitivity comes a heightened awareness of my diet.
- Classics - I like the Greeks because of their interest in oratory and their desire to being recording it all. Because of their writings, which were preserved by following generations we have a large inventory of writings from the root of our culture. I like them because they did things on a grand scale. I like the Romans because they continued the writing trends of the Greeks and also the art on the grand scale tradition.
- Theater arts - I studied theatre arts the first time I went to college. I enjoy the way live theater taunts Murphy to come out and play, and how he often does. I enjoy the full range of emotion that a good playwright can provide and good actors can play around with. I also enjoy the creativity and having the background to be able to see if the lighting director is doing something just slightly bold, or understanding why a set is so well (or so badly) designed.
